Siddhartha Chakraborty, Associate Professor of Drama Department at Rabindra Bharati University. Now the Head of that Department. Acted in several eminent group theatre of Kolkata since 1992.
Acted in different t.v serials also. Acted with eminent directors like Saoli Mitra, Ramaprasad Banik, Swatilekha Sengupta, Kuntal Mukhopadhyay, Sima Mukhopadhyay, Arpita Ghosh, Pankaj Munshi, Ram Mukhopadhyay & others.
He has even published several articles on theatre in different journals.
He is also a member of editorial board of Group Theatre magazine and the departmental journal of drama, Natyakala.
Apart from being a professor of Drama Department in Rabindra Bharati University, he has been performing in several stage theatre as the central character. He has been seen acting in some famous group theatres of Kolkata as a guest actor. He has even published several articles on theatre in different renowned journals.He has been an elocutionist from his childhood, and has also written few poems in the last few years.
Siddhartha Chakraborty took his early elocution lessons from his mother. The poems recited by him in all the recitation programs and competition held in school or in the society were learnt from his mother.
Later on, as a teen he attended a known elocutionist, Shri Murari Chakraborty’s elocution classes and received sufficient guidance from him. After completing his boards, he joined a famous recitation institution “Aabriti Parishad”, which enabled him to perform in various programs in and outside the city. Apart from recitation he had keen interest in audio dramas and theatre. He also gained a lot of popularity in his school Sinthee Ramakrishna Sangha Vidyamandir and heard praises from teachers and friends because of his euphonious voice while reciting.
He passed his Higher Secondary examination from Surendranath College taking up commerce as his core subject. Later on he did his graduation in Accountancy (Hons.)from Bangabashi College of Commerce. Further he got admitted in Rabindra Bharati University in order to study M.A. His subject was Drama and his specialization paper was Acting.
Besides continuing his studies in RBU, in1992 he became a member of “Theatre Passion” – the newly formed group by eminent theatre personality Shri Ramaprasad Banik, in order to get involved with more elaborate theatre training. On the 28th May, 1993 he acted in “Kabikatha”, the first production of Theatre Passion under academy of fine arts as some small yet major characters receiving much admiration. He had been performing in several performances of the play, “Kabikatha”,directed by Ramaprasad Banik for a few years in Kolkata and in outskirts. Keeping his studies alongside, in the year 1993 he stood first in his M.A examination in Drama from Rabindra Bharati University.
